It’s hard for me to blog about food without thinking about hunger. According to Feeding America, “In 2012, 49.0 million Americans lived in food insecure households, 33.1 million adults and 15.9 million children.” And more than a third of those served by Feeding America live in households with at least one family member working. Those numbers are overwhelming, but if we want to help, a good place to start is right where we live, in our own communities.
Because I live in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, I have researched organizations that serve the surrounding area. Below is a list of those organizations with links to their websites. There are many ways to get involved if you wish, from donating money to volunteering, to spreading the word. You’ll find lots of useful information here:
